Mobile Phone Insurance

Mobiles. Don't you just love the slippery little suckers? Luckily you can cover against those 'Oh No!' moments.

  • EASY TO BREAK & EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE

Mobile phones are beautifully designed, easy to damage and painfully expensive to replace.
  • A CASE ALONE IS NEVER ENOUGH PROTECTION

A case won't provide 100% protection or prevent mechanical breakdowns and malfunctions.
  • THEY'RE ATTRACTIVE TO THIEVES

The cutting edge design of the latest mobile phones make them a magnet for pickpockets and opportunist thieves.
  • THE COST OF UNAUTHORISED CALLS

If you’re covered for theft, or theft and loss, you’re automatically protected against unauthorised calls. Nice.

Why use Protect Your Gadget?

If you think about it, we probably spend more time gazing at our mobile phones than we do our loved ones. We use them to take photos, text our mates, read the news, shop online for things we don’t really need. We, quite literally, control our whole lives on a little screen with our fingertips.

Whatever model mobile phone we use, it’s probably become one of our best friends. It’s always there, doesn’t argue back and does whatever we want it to. We’d like to think we can live without them, but, really? Who are we trying to kid? And when we rely on something so heavily, doesn’t it make sense to find mobile phone insurance that will look after us if we can’t look after our mobile phone?

Common Questions

  • 1.What is mobile phone insurance?

Put simply, mobile phone insurance covers your mobile phone for all those ‘Oh no’ moments – like if it gets accidentally damaged, stolen or lost. It protects your phone even after your warranty expires.

Mobile phone insurance will help provide a lifeline for you if something happens to your phone. And, let’s face it, you’d be pretty lost without it, wouldn’t you?

  • 2.What does mobile phone insurance cover?

Our standard Protect cover will protect against accidental damage and mechanical breakdown.

Protect mobile phone insurance features the following as standard:

    • Liquid damage: for those times you accidentally get your phone wet (because you forgot to take it out of your pocket when you went to the loo, for example)
    • Overseas travel: so you can happily take your phone on holiday and get those all-important Insta pics.
    • Mechanical breakdown: if the phone stops working (perish the thought)
    • Accessories: but usually only if they're attached to the phone

We think our standard protect policy is pretty special and will cover you for those annoying moments when things go wrong. But you can also upgrade to include things like loss and theft.

You can choose from three different Protect mobile phone insurance policies ranging in price.

Protect: Accidental Damage, Mechanical Breakdown, £250 accessory cover, 60 days worldwide cover (per trip)

Protect Plus: Accidental Damage, Mechanical Breakdown, Theft, £250 Accessory cover, 90 days worldwide cover (per trip), Unauthorised usage (£2500), E-Wallet protection £500

Protect Premium: Accidental Damage, Mechanical Breakdown, Theft, Loss, £250 Accessory Cover, 120 Days worldwide cover (per trip), Unauthorised usage (£2500), E-Wallet Protection £500.

The most common claim types when it comes to mobile phones are a damaged screen, liquid damage, theft and loss, so, when it comes to choosing what level of cover you want, it’s a good idea to think about what you want to make sure your mobile phone is fully protected.

  • 3.Should I get mobile phone insurance?

Mobile phones and smartphones in general can be expensive, yet they are also fragile and easy to break so if you are a little bit clumsy - or forgetful - and someone who is likely to lose or damage your mobile phone, then mobile phone insurance is certainly worth considering.

  • 4.Will be mobile phone be covered in my home contents insurance?

You may well have insurance as part of your contents insurance. Contents insurance may cover your mobile phone in the event of theft, loss or damage, including natural disasters, fires or flooding. You will need to read your contents insurance thoroughly to see what is covered. You are likely to get more cover with specialist mobile phone insurance .

  • 5.My mobile phone is still under warranty so do I need mobile phone insurance?

Most mobile phones come with 12- 24 months coverage under the manufacturer’s warranty as standard. This covers you for mechanical breakdowns but you won't be covered for accidental damage or - most importantly - theft. Extended warranties also don't tend to provide for such eventualities either.

  • 6.The whole family has a mobile phone. Can I insure them all?

Yes! We offer a multi-gadget policy which covers up to 10 gadgets. The gadgets can be owned or used by just yourself, immediate family that reside at the same address - at home or away

Multi-gadget policies are ideal for families with children who use their gadgets on school trips, or where the children are students living away from home.

  • 7.Can I insure my mobile phone if I didn’t buy it in the UK?

We can insure mobile phone(s) that are:

    • purchased new or refurbished from a UK VAT registered company, or the equivalent tax registration if purchased overseas, and supplied with a proof of purchase.
    • purchased second hand or gifted to you, provided that you have the proof of purchase (which corresponds to notes 1 above) and a signed letter from the original owner confirming that you own the gadget(s). The signed letter must include the following details of your gadget(s):
      • either the IMEI or serial number (whichever is applicable);
      • the make and model;
      • the sale price;
      • confirmation that the gadget(s) were in full working order at the time of sale.
    • registered and appear on your Schedule of Insurance.
    • no more than 7 months old at the time you purchase a personal plan or less than 36 months at the time you add it to a bundle
  • 8.What do I do if I need to make a claim?

You can make a claim online 24/7 via our online claims portal.

You must register your claim as soon as possible from discovery of the incident (or in the event of an incident occurring outside of the United Kingdom, as soon as possible on returning to the United Kingdom).

Please read and follow our claim procedure to ensure your claim is processed with the minimum delay. Failure to observe these procedures may invalidate Your claim.

For Theft, loss and Malicious Damage Claims - you must notify the appropriate local Police authority within 24 hours of discovering the incident and obtain a Crime Reference / Lost Property number and a copy of the Police Crime Report.

You'll also need to inform your network provider so they can block its usage.

  • 9.How can I protect my mobile phone?

Whether you decide to take out insurance to protect your gadget or not, there are things you can do to avoid those ‘oh no’ moments.

We’ve all been there and we’ve all done it- dropping your device is a sure-fire way to damage it. However, you can protect against this by simply buying a case, which will go some way to keeping your device safe.

Don’t forget to also keep a record of your mobile phone’s IMEI number, this is unique to your handset, and should the worst happen, it will allow you to be reunited with your device. You can find this by typing *#06# into your handset’s keypad.

You can also register your device for FREE here

For added security it is recommended you add a pin code or password to all your devices. This will ensure that your personal information remains private should it fall into the wrong hands.

There are also a variety of tracker applications which could enable your device to be found. Please always contact the police and let them retrieve the device, never take the law in to your own hands!

Always avoid using your device in public places in situations where you might be distracted, such as exiting public transport. These situations make easy targets for thieves.
